Almond-Dip Bitchin’ Sauce Lands Four SKUs in 400 Stop & Shop Doors

Published May 31, 2023

Bitchin’ Sauce, the fan-favorite almond-based dip and a premier disruptor within refrigerated plant-based retail, is launching a four-item assortment of Original, Chipotle, Caramelized Onion, and Buffalo flavors into nearly 400 Stop & Shop stores. The venture provides a major increase to the brand’s cachet among deli-aisle shoppers in key areas of the Eastern US.

Regional retail giant Stop & Shop, notable abroad as the frequent stop for high-profile native Bostonians like Mark Whalberg, and for receiving comedic mentions in the New York-based series “Only Murders in the Building”, is considered a grocery staple among New England & Tri-State area shoppers, with heavy market saturation in major metropolitan centers like Boston, New York, Hartford, Providence, and Newark, among others.

The California-based Bitchin’ Sauce, propelled by an explosive early reception among West Coast supermarkets, now exists in four out of five Eastern US retailers owned by parent company Ahold Delhaize, with Stop & Shop joining sibling banners Food Lion, Giant Food, and The Giant Company.

"We're thrilled with the assortment of flavors and shelf presence this launch in Stop & Shop will bring," says Bitchin’ Senior VP of Sales Mike DeGrace. "Bitchin' Sauce has a unique appeal that transcends its health certifications and plant-based categorization- it's a genuinely delightful dip."

A cult-favorite condiment emerging from San Diego Farmers Markets, Bitchin’ Sauce now holds a significant share of national retail space within refrigerated dips & salsas, encompassing 78% of a burgeoning nut-based dip segment¹, which itself comprises 11.2% of National US Hummus, Dip, and Salsa sales² as of 2023. This development runs parallel to the decline of Hummus popularity in the US, a shrink consistent in 10 of the last 15 fiscal quarters since 2019². For a keystone conventional supermarket like Stop & Shop, the induction of Bitchin’ Sauce into its assortment is a pragmatic response to consumer demand for innovative & colorful new plant-based items.
